so, I wake up, mind you I gotta leave in 20 minutes and don't have time dealing with stupid problems of some random app I installed, and this avast won't even let me scan a specific drive. I will be late because of this. So, I google "how to scan a selected drive in avast"
come across this thread https://feedback.avast.com/responses/avast-does-not-scan-the-correct-drives
This was made 1 year ago, and today it is STILL a problem?!?!?!? Tried posting but it wouldn't let me cuz piece of shit avast requires you to be registered. FUCK you!!!!!!!
This was what I was trying to post...
I just installed avast for first time. it is 5/24/14, and it does the same exact thing. I am already disliking this app big time. I specifically chose to scan drive D, yet when I click scan it scans drives C. WTF!?!!!?? how hard is it to fix this bug? I don't want my C drive scanned!!!!!! Plus, it is complicated as hell to do a custom scan. I really don't like this avast. after all the people recommending it and it can't do a SIMPLE task? my god...
then I google searched "how to scan a specific drive in avast", and came across a topic "can't specify harddrives to scan", but when I click it, it tells me
Site temporarily down
We are sorry, site is temporarily down.
FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK AVAST!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM UNINSTALLING THIS SACK OF SHIT AND WILL NEVER USE IT AGAIN UNLESS THEY FIX THE STUPID MOST SIMPLEST BUG I EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!?!?!!?? WHAT TYPE OF PROGRAMMERS YOU GOT WORKING FOR YOU? SOMEONE WHO JUST FINISHED KINDERGARDEN!?!?!?!? DUMB FUCKING SHIT!!
FUCK AVAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU RUINED MY MORNING!
Let's look at Microsoft Security Essentials and how easy it is to do a custom drive scan. Not saying it is the best anti-virus out there, but I got Windows 7 and get this app for free. All you do is be in default Home tab, on right side click Custom > Scan Now > Chose drive > OK... THAT'S IT!!!
Now, let's compare it with half assed avast. You have to go to Scan tab, then click settings, then under scan it says "Full system scan", but we want to scan just one drive. So, under Scan All Areas where it says All harddisks, you gotta click the down arrow to expand the menu, and click Browse all the way at bottom. Now, you chose your Drive and click OK. It says D:\. You gotta click OK at bottom. BUT IT STILL SAYS "Full system scan". So you click Start, and it starts scanning all drives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only way it works is when you chose "Select folder to scan" instead of "Full system scan". Then click Start, chose your drive, and click OK. Now you got your AMAZING THE BEST ANTI-VIRUS EVER scanning your specific drive. WTF!?!?!?!?!??!?!? WHY IT GOTTA BE SO FUCKING COMPLICATED!?!!??!?! FUCKING DIP SHITS CREATING THIS FUCKING THING. OMG!!!! IT TOOK ME 40 FUCKING MINUTES TO FIGURE THIS OUT.
AVAST SUCKS!!! IT IS A COMPLICATED PIECE OF SHIT!!! FUCK YOU AVAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF IT DOESN'T FIND ANY VIRUSES, I AM UNINSTALLING IT. I SCANNED THE DRIVE ALRADY WITH MSE AND MALWARE BYTES. AND IF AVAST WON'T FIND SHIT, IT IS FUCKING USELESS TO ME!!

What a piece of shit program and criminal waste of time!
Just found this via a web-search. You'll be happy to know that after Avast's monumental fuck up of all fuck ups yesterday, only a matter of time before they're completely out of business.
Doubt there'd be ANY way for them to get their integrity back. Seems they rushed out a virus-definitions database, that triggered false-positive malware reports on most everybody, if not everybody, using Avast. According to the forums there are SEVERAL that did a scan as it recommended, which went through and flagged hundreds, if not thousands, of files as infected/threat, and deleted them all... including necessary system files. Several users have reported completely messed up systems that are unbootable and completely unusable, while others are reporting tons of lost pictures/photos and other important files irreplaceable and completely gone. (Thankfully when I scanned my system, along with our work system, there weren't any issues.)
To top it off, people are reporting that when they go to support for a broken and unbootable system, support is telling them that it's their own fault for deciding to do a scan when they get a malware warning from the very program they're supposed to be supporting, and are refusing to give refunds. So there'll probably be a class-action lawsuit coming as well.
It's one thing when a security fails to be secure and threats get through, another when the security is hacked... BUT, when the security itself is the biggest threat that completely crippled a system worse than any virus/malware could... yeah, they are DONE, completely DONE.
I'm planning on switching to either Bitdefender or Kaspersky. (Doesn't help that the Avast forums are pretty toxic... I actually got banned for a week because a person said they had a problem with the latest database, when I tried to ask what the problem was, as well as if everybody should know, they snapped at me and said "if you have nothing better to say, don't say anything, point of this thread is to be helpful not sarcastic"... wasn't being sarcastic, was honestly asking, so after they made 3 or 4 more posts going up one side of me and down the other with insult after insult, and I finally told them off, I got banned for "fighting", like WTF!?)
Avast is done... I've even gone out of my way to add avast.com and forums.avast.com to my block-site extension to ensure that avast never comes anywhere near my system ever again. :)
Guys, keep in mind.. I also installed the FREE version of Avast for my Android tablet after the same co-worker that was hyping it up, and my tablet got significantly slower. I finally figured it out and uninstalled the app.
Seems like the company is run by incompetent or lazy people, who just rush their products out without thoroughly testing them. I am not sure how Avast is like today, but from the comments above, looks like things haven't changed much.
Yes. It is the worst. Can't even describe how frustrated I got. What a waste of time and money.
